QSR 2009: Five hits and a miss

The article talks of the trends and mishaps QSR establishments encountered for the year 2009. It covers everything from social media to design and elaborates on why it was a hit among consumers. I liked this article because it is relevent to all my article reviews I have done concerning this issue. Premium burgers being sold for half the price you can get at a gourmet restaurant, connecting wtih the QSR through twitter, it all shows ways on how to better market and meet customers needs in recessionary times.

  1. IN my opinion, I dont feel like the twitter trend is going to last... I think its great that companies want to know what there consumers but the method in using twitter will die as the websites popularity drops. But the updating in QSR restaurants to a more modern decor i feel is something that needed to be addressed. I have definately notice Mcdonalds has a few restaurants with a new look rather then the tacky decor that they have had for years. As far as KFC new grilled chicken, I feel like its not gonna last that long, I feel like its the same thing as the rotisserie chicken they had a few years ago...It starts and people love it but then they go back to the status quo.

  3. KFC is actually in some sort of lawsuit with a another KFC company/department. I don't know the details (I tried finding the site I saw it on and failed) I know that there was a serious internal problem with the company introducing and promoting the the grilled chiken more then the fried, so even if consumers wanted it to last, it most likely would not because of these law suits, Much like the BK double cheese burger for $1.

I agree with Britny on the Twitter issue also, I would be surpried if the twitter Fad lasted more then 5 years.

  4. This article shows what went right in 09 and what went wrong. Yes the best social media out right now is twitter. From reading this I didn’t know McDonald’s and Wendy’s had a twitter. I love the Mc Cafe line the ice coffee is so good. Premium burgers are being sold at fast food for less money. I’m not a fan of Burger King or KFC, but it’s good that KFC has a grilled chicken option now.
